Edgewater Rear Yard

Chicago, IL

We transformed this deck and back yard into a clean and functional family space. The old deck was removed to install a larger dining area, and a full screen to block the large apartment building to the north. The composite deck has a built-in-grill and serving bar, with storage for cushion covers and BBQ tools. The yard was redesigned to create a dominant lawn/play area, and a designated lounge seating that sits underneath a steel and cedar pergola. Drainage concerns and lighting issues were addressed to add to the function of the design. The lounge was finished off with couches that surround a propane fueled fire table. This invites guests out into the landscape in the evening hours, and is the focal point of entertaining with friends. We also designed in a sliding panels, under the deck, for storage. It is there that the clients puts their hose and all the kid’s toys that somehow never end up where they started.
