Balancing the client’s desires to incorporate elements of nature while sticking to a contemporary urban feel, this garage rooftop deck was created using three materials: cedar, steel, and frosted acrylic. Contrasting elements of horizontal and vertical lines infuse the feel of urban modularity, while live roof material atop the pergola provides nature’s bounty of beauty, shade, and protection without compromising square footage. A fully functioning irrigation system waters all plant material. Custom lighting is controlled by a smart phone, illuminating varying elements into a cohesive whole.
